Destiny just put Alyssa Mercante, Kotaku's senior editor, on blast, and it’s getting messy. He called her out for her embarrassingly biased coverage of Hasanabi, tweeting, "Jesus, @alyssa_merc is a senior editor at Kotaku; no wonder Hasan always gets such favorable coverage over there lmaooo, these tweets are so down bad it’s pathetic." Seeing someone in her position fangirl that hard over a Twitch streamer is beyond cringe, and Destiny wasn’t about to let it slide.
Now, here’s where it gets rich—Alyssa actually messaged me, tweeting at me asking to "leave her alone." Yeah, the same Alyssa Mercante who has made a career out of antagonizing people through her articles and Twitter drama, now wants to play the victim. It’s textbook hypocrisy. Her past behavior includes taking shots at others without hesitation, but when the tables turn, she suddenly becomes thin-skinned.
The reality is, she dishes it out but can’t handle it when the criticism comes back her way. Destiny's call-out is just the latest example of how people in her own ideological camp are done with her nonsense. Mercante loves to position herself as some kind of fearless gaming journalist, but when people push back, she folds and starts crying foul. It's pretty laughable when someone who’s spent so much time attacking others suddenly wants to act like the victim.
At the end of the day, if Alyssa can’t handle the heat, maybe she should stop dishing it out. Hypocrisy isn’t a good look for someone who’s built a platform on stirring the pot.
